What does my baby look like in week 25?
Your baby is weeing frequently, and this urine passes into the amniotic fluid. Their brain, digestive system and lungs are developed but they’re not what they call ‘mature’ yet - they will continue to develop as your pregnancy progresses.
Your pregnancy symptoms in week 25
You may be putting on weight quickly now and feeling bigger as your baby fills out. Eat a balanced diet to avoid gaining more than you need to.

You may crave certain foods. No one knows why pregnant women get cravings but there’s no harm in eating a little bit of the food you crave - just don’t overdo it!
If you crave something that isn’t edible, such as soap or earth, or foods that you should avoid in pregnancy, such as pâté or certain cheeses, don’t eat them! Talk to your midwife or doctor instead.
As your bump grows, it’s natural to adjust your posture when standing and moving to cope with your changing shape.
This, together with the hormonal changes that make your ligaments soften, can cause problems for your back. These tips should help:
- Avoid heavy lifting if possible
- You may find that a firm mattress or a massage helps
- Exercising in water, having a pregnancy massage or back care classes may help ease the pain
- If it’s very painful, ask your doctor or midwife to refer you to a physiotherapist.
If you have a sore itchy bum this could be piles, or haemorrhoids - swollen veins around your anus that feel like lumps. They may be itchy or sore and are often worse if you’re constipated.
Don’t worry, you’re not alone - they’re quite common in pregnancy. They can be uncomfortable and bleed a little when you have a bowel movement.
To avoid these or reduce the discomfort, eat plenty of fibre-rich foods such as fruit, vegetables and wholegrain cereals. It’s important to drink plenty of water too.
If you think you may have piles, talk to your midwife or pharmacist about treatments that might help.

If you have trouble sleeping, it can make you feel exhausted and irritable. Some women find that supporting their bump with pillows can help them feel more comfortable in bed.
Try to keep your bedroom cool - about 18˚C is perfect. It also helps to have a relaxing bedtime routine, such as a warm bath or a milky drink.
It is important to go to sleep on your side from 28 weeks as going to sleep on your back has been linked to stillbirth. This could be due to the weight of the bump on the vena cava (a large vein running down your back). If the vein is squashed it means that less oxygen gets to the baby. Don’t worry if you wake up on your back, just roll back onto your side. Read more about sleeping safely in late pregnancy.

Your next midwife appointment
If this is your first baby, you’re likely to have a routine antenatal appointment at around 25 weeks. Your midwife or doctor will feel your bump gently with their hands to work out the height of your womb. They will also use a tape measure.
Your blood pressure will be checked and they’ll also take a urine sample to check for protein. These are normal checks to make sure you don't have signs of pre-eclampsia.

You can continue to exercise and stay active right to the end of your pregnancy.
If you’re a keen runner, or doing other kinds of high-impact aerobic exercise, you might be more comfortable switching to something that puts less stress on your joints, like a stationary bike in the gym or swimming.

I have this severe waist pain when I stand for awhile and these days I cant really sleep on my sides for too long cos I feel out of breath .so I sleep sitting with pillows on my back. Am 25 weeks and expecting triplets. Anyone else with these complaints ?

It sounds like you could benefit from being seen by a physiotherapist for support, do ask your midwife or doctor to refer you.

Hi, I’m also 25 weeks with twins and have a very bad waist pain. I thought upper abdomen tear, but drs and sonographers day they can’t feel anything. It’s very constant and uncomfortable. They only suggest to ease with paracetamol & rest, but I have a 3yr old and a 22month old, so that’s don’t happening! Perhaps water excerises could sooth or a warm bath, but otherwise nothing I can suggest.

Hey I’ve been experiencing heavy heavy pelvic pressure today. It’s been very intense and sore lower back cramping Also. I am 25 weeks and have been diagnosed with placenta previa. This is my third baby and I’ve never experienced this. Should I be concerned?

In pregnancy there can be a lot of pressure on your back passage that may cause pain or pressure and this can lead to piles that can be painful when you have a bowel movement. Hi, I’m 24 weeks + 4 days and so far my pregnancy is very normal. BP is normal, vitamin levels all normal, I’m quite active, eat lots of heathy food, avoid junk food and drink plenty of water. Just in the past 2 weeks I’ve experienced a stitch type pain near my right rib cage twice so far. It sort of feels like a tangled pain when I breathe in, so I have to take short breaths while this pain occurs. It probably has occured for maybe a minute or 2 and has gone away after rubbing it and keeping it warm. Since this is not something I’ve experienced before (and this is my first pregnancy) does it sound like something serious or a common thing during pregnancy?

Mild pain and discomfort are very common in pregnancy-as the baby and uterus grow they displace other organs in your abdomen and this can lead to feelings of discomfort and pains like you describe related to the stretching and expanding womb.
However if you experience severe pain, or the stitch pain does not go away or if there are other worrying symptoms such as bleeding or severe headaches, for example then you should seek urgent advice from your maternity unit.

zainab - i'm 25 weeks today and i experience side stitches like you described relatively often. sometimes they are up by my ribs, sometimes they are down low, but always on one side or the other. they feel like when you get a cramp in your ribs when you are running and out of shape. :) mine only happen when i'm walking and i'm usually able to walk through the pain, but they are painful. i noticed that they seem to be worse if i have to pee and and walking, which is most of the time! given that they go away and feel like normal cramps, i don't think it's anything to worry about. but definitely mention to your doc or midwife if you're concerned! especially if they don't go away easily.

However, if you are still experiencing these pains when passing urine or walking then we would advise that you see your GP or midwife as any pains should be assessed in pregnancy. I was on my way to my 24 week prenatal appointment. As I exit the freeway i began feeling really hot and dizzy. Before I knew it my vision went white and I no longer could see. I put my car in park and put my emergency lights on in the middle of traffic. I turned the ac on cold and laid back in my seat. After about 15mins. My vision retured and I was able to get to my appointment. The baby is fine and my blood pressure was fine. WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSE THIS VERY SCARY INCIDENT?

Hi, it is reassuring that you had an antenatal appointment following this event and no concerns were found and your blood pressure was normal. Some dizzy spells can occur during pregnancy, this can be due to dehydration or low blood sugars so eating healthy and drinking regularly is important. It can also be due to low iron levels, so again eating iron rich foods and if this happens again see your midwife or GP for a blood test to check your iron levels are not low. If you have another episode then do call your maternity unit to be reviewed.

Probably just needed to eat something. Same thing happened to me in the grocery store and I had to sit down. Only thing I did different was going to eat a late lunch. Now I will eat on time to avoid that scary ordeal. Hope you're doing better and this helped!

Um preeclampsia I think may be a very valid concern for you. I remember reading another the vision loss.
If that's not it And I'm not an expert in anyway or a doctor or medical student. But migranes from experiance can cause vision loss

Hi, thanks for posting obviously in the middle of the night and in awful pain. Please don't suffer on your own. In view of the whooping cough I would call your hospital Day Assessment Unit (DAU) in advance explain your history and explain that you are in pain due to gall stones as well as a result of coughing. You need stronger analgesia and a review now.

Hi I was diagnosed with gallstones at 21 weeks pregnant in which I was hospilised for a week I've been on bed rest since then. I'm now 35 weeks pregnant pain is back with advengence and I also have the whopping cough I feel miserable can't sleep barely can walk with pains and tightens in my chest left side and bum please help I need advice shud I go back into hospital where my baby can be monitored properly or hold out.
