Baby loss support - for dads and partners

Losing a baby is a devastating experience. After baby loss, people often focus on the person who carried the baby. But as a partner, you have experienced loss too and may also need support.

Losing a baby during pregnancy or after birth is a heartbreaking experience. We have information and support to help you during this difficult time.

These pages are for dads, partners and non-birthing parents. We also hope they will be helpful for anyone who is supporting someone through pregnancy and birth.

We use the word ‘partner’ to include:

  • the partner(s), spouse or civil partner (including same-sex partners) of the mum or birthing parent
  • the biological father of the child
  • the co-parent(s)
  • the secondary adoptive parent having a child through surrogacy.

Our language is under constant review as we understand more about our audience’s needs.
