Our partnership with The LGBT Mummies Tribe

The LGBT Mummies Tribe’s sole purpose is to ‘Educate, Share, & Celebrate’ LGBT+ women and people worldwide on the path to motherhood or parenthood. By working together, we hope to promote inclusivity throughout the pregnancy journey and in support around baby loss.

About the LGBT Mummies

The LGBT Mummies Tribe provides support, information and a safe space for parents from the LGBTQ+ community to connect and share their experience of pregnancy and parenthood. Whether you are thinking of starting a family or have children already by fertility treatment, surrogacy, adoption, fostering, as a single parent, co-parent or a step parent - all are welcome in the community.

The organisation is also involved in policy work regarding same-sex families to ensure support, equality and inclusivity through the maternity health system and associated services.

We always knew we wanted children & so after we had got married, decided to discuss what options were available to us. So many questions. What ARE our options? Do we want to carry a child? Who carries? How? How much does it cost? Where can we do it? How do we choose a donor? The list of questions were endless.

— Laura-Rose, founder of The LGBT Mummies Tribe

Laura-Rose and her wife have been together for 13 years and are founders of The LGBT Mummies Tribe. They have 2 children and are both ‘bio’ and ‘non-bio’ mothers. As a couple, their pregnancy journeys have been difficult, navigating IVF, 10 intrauterine inseminations and a frozen embryo transfer, and sadly experiencing miscarriage. There needs to be further support for LGBT+ women, including ‘non-bio’ mothers and parents, during pregnancy but also through loss. More conversations need to be had and more stories shared, so that other LGBT+ women and people do not feel alone, and our partnership with Tommy’s will do just that.

— Laura-Rose

During the couple’s 9 year-journey, they were consistently contacted by others for information about how they started their family, which prompted them to set up The LGBT Mummies Tribe, as a central source of support.

The LGBT Mummies Tribe acts as a central point of support and a safe haven, through providing information, advice and knowledge on the available routes to starting a family. By working together, we hope to promote inclusivity throughout the pregnancy journey and in support around baby loss.

Some of our goals:
-    Share stories from the LGBTQ+ community to help normalise diverse families through our platforms
-    Make sure that important pregnancy information, research and baby loss support is accessible to everyone
-    Develop more information that supports LGBT+ parents throughout the pregnancy journey
