Race to the King 2024

Write your own piece of history in the heart of the South Downs as you chase the King from the ancient coast to sweeping ridges.

Whether you're a first-time Ultra runner or a hardened professional there is something to test everyone in this ultramarathon challenge.  

You will be treated like royalty on your journey with fully stocked pitstops, laden with food and drinks, and tireless support from the crew and medics. 

The event

Follow in the footsteps of royalty along the spectacular Monarch’s Way and South Downs Way in this unique figure-of-eight ultramarathon.

Support fit for a King, race like royalty, with pit stops packed with food and expert support throughout.

There's 3 options for your challenge. 

  • The full 100km all in 1 go
  • 50km route taking on the coastal loop
  • 50km route taking on the castle loop
How to register

Tommy's has a set number of places in Race to the King. 

To register for one of our places click on the button and complete the form. You'll be asked to pay a registration fee of £40 for the 100km or £30 for the 50km challenge.

Then you'll set up a fundraising page for Tommy's and asked to raise a minimum of £500 for the 100km and £300 for the 50km challenge.

Complete the full figure-of-eight 100km route starting and finishing on the West Dean Estate taking in both the Coastal and Castle loops.

50km Coastal route 

Complete a 50km route starting and finishing on the West Dean Estate running through the ornamental gardens of West Dean, the ancient village of Bosham and the Kingley Vale Nature Reserve. You’ll take in the panoramic views of the coast, rolling hills, luscious greenery and fantastic wildlife.

50km Coastal route 

Complete a 50km route passing by the impressive Arundel Castle as you meander along the River Arun. As you head towards the finish you'll journey across the South Downs Way, where you can expect challenging climbs and breathtaking views in every direction, before ending your journey back at the West Dean Estate.
