Tommy’s Patron awarded a Knighthood in New Year’s Honours list

We’re delighted that our long-standing supporter and Patron, Ron Dennis, has been awarded a Knighthood in the New Year’s Honours list.

Ron, who is knighted for his services to industry and to charity, was Co-Chair of our Trustee Board for 15 years. In 2016 he became our Patron, alongside Sally Tennant OBE.

He has spoken previously about the personal experience that inspired him to support Tommy’s, describing it as ‘horrifying’ to discover how many people were affected by miscarriage or stillbirth.

His Knighthood recognises both his impact at Tommy’s and his work as Chair of Podium Analytics, the organisation he founded to reduce injuries among young people playing sport.

Ron is the former Chairman and Chief Executive of McLaren Technology Group, and former Chairman of McLaren Automotive. In 2000 he was awarded a CBE for services to motorsport.

Kath Abrahams, Chief Executive of Tommy’s, said:

“Ron has made an outstanding contribution to Tommy’s over so many years, and we are enormously grateful for his continued support.  His leadership enabled us to achieve tremendous impact for families and save thousands of babies’ lives.

“He has given us so much of his time and invaluable experience, firstly as Co-Chairman of our Board of Trustees and for the last eight years as our Patron.

“We’re thrilled that he has been recognised with this fitting honour. All of us at Tommy’s send him our warmest congratulations.”
