1 in 4 pregnancies in the UK end in early miscarriage. It is a very common tragedy but is hugely under-researched and misunderstood by the general public. We want to challenge the prevalent thinking that it is 'just one of those things'. We believe that investing into research will allow us to prevent many of the 250,000 miscarriages that happen every year in the UK.
“I had five further miscarriages over the next three years. Now when I look back, I can’t believe I put myself through the heartache and pain so many times but it was my only way of dealing with the loss – get up, dust down and try again. Although we saw specialists we still don’t really know why they happened. There were ‘possible’ reasons and ‘possible’ solutions that made every pregnancy terrifying.”

Our longstanding supporters Séraphine and Sophie Ellis-Bextor are hoping to raise over £100,000 to help fund our research centre. All the profits from the Love T-shirts go to Tommy's - £13 per t-shirt. Seraphine has also committed to giving an extra £1 if you post an image of yourself on social media with the hashtag ‘#justforlove’.

'The best chance we have is through research'
Sophie Ellis-Bextor says “As a mother, Tommy’s is a charity that’s close to my heart. For the past 24 years Tommy’s has been doing amazing work to ensure that every family has the best chance of having a healthy baby. This year, they are focusing on addressing the tragedy that 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. That’s 250,000 babies lost and families devastated every year. The best chance we have is through research and that’s why Tommy’s wants to raise £2m to open the UK’s largest clinical centre in April 2016 dedicated to preventing early miscarriage. I feel so proud to work with Séraphine and raise money for a fantastic cause that will make such a difference to families in the UK – and I get to wear this gorgeous T-shirt!”
Cécile Reinaud, Founder of Séraphine, said “We’re delighted to be working with Tommy’s; it’s a charity close to our hearts and one I feel is a perfect partnership for Séraphine. With the support of the beautiful Sophie Ellis Bextor and the power of social media we’re really hoping to make a difference and boost research funds.”
Jane Brewin, CEO of Tommy’s, said “I am so happy that Seraphine and Sophie are helping Tommy’s to put miscarriage on the national agenda, a cause that affects hundreds of thousands of UK families. With their help and your support we will be able to open our new research centre next year dedicated to preventing early miscarriage. Please buy this t-shirt for friends, family and loved ones and support Tommy's!”
