I had unprotected sex on 18th April and took a pill the next day, my last period date was 10th April and I again spotted a little bleeding and also have bad back ache on 27th April
Is there any chance of me being pregnant
By Midwife @Tommys on 30 Apr 2018 - 09:46
Hi Shreya, It is much too soon to know if you are pregnant, you would need to wait until your next period is due and most pregnancy tests would detect a pregnancy at that point.

So my last period was in april 9th . I had unprotected sex in 21st of april . My ovulation day is 25 april . What is the chance of me getting pregnant
By Midwife @Tommys on 26 Apr 2018 - 15:02
Hi Mixoo, Thank you for your comment.
If you are not using any form of contraception and you have had unprotected sex then there is every chance that you will get pregnant. You will need to wait and see if you miss your next period and then you can do a pregnancy test to see if you are pregnant. Take Care, Tommy's Midwives x

Although a woman is fertile for only a few days in each menstrual cycle, it is known that having regular sex throughout the month will maximise your chances of conception.

Hi my period started on 6 of December 2017 to 9 it's usually 4days after i had unprotected sex same weeks let's say two days after nd again i had unprotected sex with my ex on the 25 of December so i don't know when I got pregnant
By Midwife @Tommys on 2 Mar 2018 - 12:05
If you have a regular 28 day cycle, then the most likely time to conceive is in the middle of your cycle, so about 2 weeks after the first day of your last period. From the dates that you provide this would be about the 20th December, but this can vary by a few days either side, it is not possible to say exactly which day. If you had sex with two partners close together then you will likely need to do a DNA test to determine who the father of the baby is. Best wishes, Tommy's midwives x

my last period was feb 5 then i and my husband had an intercourse on the 6th, 8th and 10th of feb unprotected sex. is there as chance of pregnancy for me? what is the safe days to have intercourse without worrying about protection. It is said that one week before and after period is safe interval for unprotected intercourse?
By Midwife @Tommys on 14 Feb 2018 - 09:09
Any unprotected intercourse, at any time of your monthly cycle, leaves you open to the possibility of conceiving. Unless this is something that you are planning for, then please do use contraception.

Thank you for replying to my previous message, I have just done another ovulation test and I got a strong positive, does that mean I'm ovulating today or in the next few days? Should I still test for a couple more days? Many thanks :)
By Midwife @Tommys on 24 Oct 2017 - 10:12
Thanks for your post. As you've got a strong positive on your ovulation test today that indicates that you have had a surge of Luteinising hormone (LH) this usually happens 1-2 days prior to ovulation- the most fertile part of your cycle.
An egg only survives 12-24 hours and sperm survive for 5-7 days so having sex in the two days leading up to ovulation is great.
It is good to remember that 80% of couples get pregnant within a year of trying and having sex a couple of times a week throughout your cycle is the best way to maximise your chances of getting pregnant.
Good luck x

We have been trying to conceive for 6 months and no luck, this month I've been using ovulation tests, I'm 17 days into my cycle and I haven't ovulated yet :( is this normal? Usually I would have felt it by now. Would it have been possible for the egg to have already been fertilized, resulting in negative ovulation tests? We've had sex every day for the last 11 days plus 3 consecutive days at the beginning of my period.
It's really getting us down :(

Hi, Not all women will ovulate every month. If your ovaries don't produce a mature follicle then ovulation won't occur. You will however still get your period as the lining of your uterus will build up as usual. It is possible also that ovulation occurred early so I would suggest that you do a pregnancy test once your period is due. If it is negative try to be patient as many couples take up to a year to conceive. Have a look at our top tips for conception as this may give you some ideas to increase your chance. Best wishes Tommy's midwives x

Hi i had unprotected sex on sept. 30th and oct 2 both right before ovulating my ovulation day was oct 3 i started cramping oct 5 and was wondering if i might conceive?
By Midwife @Tommys on 6 Oct 2017 - 15:55
Hi, if you are having unprotected sex then there is always a chance of getting pregnant. We would advise you to take a pregnancy test if your period is late to see if you are pregnant, in the meantime we would also advised for you to be taking a folic acid supplement just in case you are pregnant.

Hi um I did a test on the internet well prediction tests and the first one I did said I am having a girl but the second said a boy my last period was on 28.08.2017 and I really want to know what I'm having so I can choose a name and start buying clothes thxs. Ps I cant buy a pregnancy test I'd rather not say lol but I know for sure that I'm pregnant
By Midwife @Tommys on 14 Sep 2017 - 14:18
Hi Thank you for your comment. An internet predictor will not tell you the sex of your baby but at your 20 week anomaly scan, they should be able to tell you if you are having a boy or a girl, if baby is in a good position. If you cannot buy a pregnancy test then you can always go to your local family planning clinic and they will be able to do a free pregnancy test for you. Take care Tommy's Midwives x

Hi...My last period 28/07..My last sex wad AT 24/08/2017 ...if im pergnant how many week?
By Midwife @Tommys on 13 Sep 2017 - 09:15
It would be sensible to first do a pregnancy test, either at home or at your GP surgery.
Using the date of the 28/07/2017 as your last menstrual period, and presuming you have a 28 day cycle, you would be approximately 6-7 weeks pregnant. An ultrasound scan would then properly date your pregnancy more accurately at a later date once you have booked for your antenatal care. Please take care of yourself and feel free to call us if you wish to speak further about this.

Hi, My cycle started 24 July. Had both protected /unprotected sex on 30-31July then 5 Aug started spotting. 2 days b4 what was supposed to b O'd 7 Aug. Cycle was due Aug 21 it's has been 19days and still no cycle. Taking 8 test negative, only 2 has faint lines. Could I be pregnant or not?
By Midwife @Tommys on 11 Sep 2017 - 16:15
Traces of hCG can be found in your urine from three to four days after the fertilised egg implants in your womb (uterus) and the amount present builds up each day.
A pregnancy test can only detect hCG and give a positive result when there's enough of the hormone to measure in your urine.
If you have had positive pregnancy test, even with faint lines then you are pregnant. If you still unsure you can ask you GP to carry out a blood test too.
You should also make an appointment to see your GP for antenatal booking and advice and start taking Folic acid and Vitamin D supplements if you haven't already.
