Trusts and foundations

At Tommy’s, we want to form lasting, strategic partnerships with trusts and foundations. By partnering with us, you can help us achieve our ambitious goal of making the UK the safest place in the world to give birth.

Why support Tommy’s

We work to support, care for and champion people, no matter where they may be on their pregnancy journey. Your support can help us to:

Your support can help us identify the causes and solutions to preterm birth, miscarriage and stillbirth and their associated pregnancy complications at our research centres based in Manchester, Birmingham, Coventry, London and Edinburgh.

Our research

We provide pregnancy advice for people before, during and after pregnancy through our online PregnancyHub, through which we reach an average of 1.8 million users a month. Besides our website, we also provide expert advice through our dedicated social media channels promoting positive behaviour change and access to antenatal care.

Our PregnancyHub

We recently worked with the UK Preterm Clinical Network to produce the ‘Reducing Preterm Birth’ guidelines in the NHS England ‘Saving Babies’ Lives Care Bundle’.

Whether you can offer a one-off donation or a multi-year grant, your support will make pregnancy safer for women and give more babies a healthy start in life.

Your funding will go further

The Tommy’s approach is to provide seed funding to research centres that enables them to grow year on year by attracting funding from the NHS, universities and other research organisations.

We estimate that every £1 donated will leverage at least £5 of funding in five years’ time.

This means that a donation of £100,000 could result in £500,000 additional funding.

Our trust and foundation supporters

Tommy’s is grateful to have the committed support of a number of trusts and foundations.

The Garfield Weston Foundation

The Garfield Weston Foundation and Tommy’s have been working together ever since we established ourselves in 1992. With the generous support of the foundation, we’ve launched five research centres to investigate the causes of and treatments for stillbirth, preterm birth and miscarriage, and to standardise maternity care nationwide.

Established in 1958, the Garfield Weston Foundation is one of the biggest and most respected charitable institutions in the UK, giving approximately £80 million to over 2,000 charities of all sizes each year.

The Foundation’s ethos is to support charities with talented people and effective ways to meet a clear need. The Trustees are highly engaged with the foundation’s work and seek to support quality and excellence, with work or projects demonstrating clear outcomes and direct patient benefit.

The vital seed funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation at the very early stages of each research centre has been instrumental in helping us transform the lives of so many families across the UK.
