Never thought it would happen to me
After having my daughter without any complications or problems, I assumed it would be the same when we came to try for a second child. So when my daughter was 3, I stopped taking the pill in the hopes of becoming pregnant.
After a year of trying, I found out I was pregnant. But soon after, I started bleeding and realised I had miscarried.
I was a little surprised as it’s one of those things that I’d never thought would happen to me after having a seemingly easy experience with my daughter.”
Albeit surprising, I was ok with it as I was able to detach myself.
My next 2 pregnancies
A few months later I got pregnant again, but I soon noticed some spotting and brown discharge. Apart from this, I felt no other symptoms, but when I went to the hospital we found out it was an ectopic pregnancy.
Fortunately, there was no need to operate so I was given an injection to terminate the pregnancy. I was kept in hospital afterwards, which was scary.
I then got pregnant again but after some bleeding, a pregnancy test showed I was no longer pregnant. We called the hospital and were told it was likely a miscarriage.
A risk to our baby
We decided to try again, and a month later I was pregnant.
At a scan, we found out it was a double pregnancy. But, one of the fetuses was ectopic and was in the fallopian tube. The other had made its way to the womb.
The doctors said they had never had a case like mine before.”
They said they were going to remove the ectopic pregnancy surgically by removing the tube to try and ensure our baby was unharmed.
This was surprising, and I was concerned knowing there may be a risk to the baby that had made it to the womb. The doctors and nurses were very comforting and gave me lots of reassurance.
Our son Matteo
The surgery was successful, and our baby made it to full term.
Our rainbow baby, Matteo, was born via c-section on 26 May 2022.
I wanted to share my story to give others going through the pain of miscarriage, ectopics or other heartbreaks some inspiration.
And in 2024, we took part in Sensathon with Baby Sensory, to raise money for Tommy’s. I wanted to help others going through loss to know that they’re not alone and that there is still hope.
There is always hope.”
