Pride Month 2023

June is Pride Month, a month to celebrate and amplify the voices of the LGBTQ+ community. Here at Tommy’s, we’re passionate about inclusivity, and aim to represent all kinds of parents and families in all of our support and information resources.

Why we need Pride

Pride Month is celebrated every June, to honour the 1969 Stonewall riots. These were a series of protests by members of the LGBTQ+ community in New York. During the month, we come together to achieve equity for all in the community.

Here at Tommy’s, we know pregnancy and baby loss can be very isolating, with many feeling unable or finding it hard to speak out. For LGBTQ+ families, this isolation can feel even worse  if they don't feel included in the conversation.

We want to make sure that all parents, including mums, birthing parents, non-birthing parents, dads and partners feel supported and represented throughout their pregnancy journey.

Our work with LGBT Mummies

We know we're stronger when we work together and build lasting relationships with communities and partners. One example of this is our support of organisations like LGBT Mummies.

LGBT Mummies was set up by mums Laura-Rose and Stacey, who are both bio and non bio parents to their children. The couple went through fertility, loss and varied pregnancy journeys before founding LGBT Mummies. The platform’s sole purpose is to support LGBTQ+ women and birthing people globally on the path to motherhood or parenthood. By working together, we hope to promote inclusivity throughout the pregnancy journey and in support around baby loss.

“We want to amplify the voices of non-birthing parents to ensure their journey and the support they need throughout those journeys is understood, supported and inclusive.”

Working together

To help us live our value of inclusivity, the team at LGBT Mummies have helped us develop our Dad’s and Partners Hub. The hub validates and supports the partner’s experience in the pregnancy and loss journey, providing tailored support and advice.

Together with LGBT Mummies, we share pregnancy and baby loss stories from the LGBTQ+ community to help normalise diverse families through our platforms. This includes stories from same-sex couples and trans parents.

We also make sure that important pregnancy information, research and baby loss support is accessible to everyone, no matter their gender or sexuality, by improving the language that we use across Tommy's.

"Pride is 365 days of the year, not just 1 month."

A year-round effort

We know Pride is year-round, and the conversation shouldn't start and end just this month. We work hard throughout the year to make sure the resources and information we provide are inclusive and representative of everyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

We want to continue to show up for the LGBTQ+ community, which includes sharing their stories. If you're comfortable sharing your story of baby loss, please get in touch.
