£3,000 would pay for the materials required for one year of a research project investigating blood flow to the placenta, looking at the differences between "normal" pregnancy and when the baby's growth is restricted.
Charitable trusts and major donors can help us to purchase essential laboratory equipment
Help make a difference to our work by funding essential laboratory equipment for our medical research teams in London and Manchester.
The Worshipful Company of Innholders donated £8,000 to pay for the purchase of a Hypoxic Organ Bath Chamber for the Manchester Maternal & Fetal Research Centre. This piece of equipment was invaluable in allowing our researchers to prove that oxygen starvation (hypoxia) of the muscles in the uterus will stop the muscles from contracting. These findings have been of paramount importance in the clinical treatment of women in labour by suggesting that dehydration causes hypoxia and that fluids should be administered to the patient as a priority.
If you are interested in funding our laboratory equipment, please contact us, using the contact details on the left.
