Fundraising news

Below are just some of the ways our supporters have raised money for Tommy's.

Tommy loses his locks for Tommy's!

Paul Cooper Head Shave

He shows great bravery...

Paul Cooper, also known as Tommy, was invited to lose his flowing locks for the greater good!  Last weekend he showed great bravery as he had all his hair cut off while raising a fantastic £400.  From his pictures he appeared quite distressed at his new style but Tommy's still thinks you look cute!

Tommy's would like to thank Paul for his courage and support.  We've asked Santa to bring you a wooly hat for Christmas!

London to Brighton (in firefighting gear!)

Firefighters London to Brighton Walk

A hot day out in aid of Tommy's!

Four firefighters from the Surrey Fire and Rescue service hit the pavements on the 25th August 2007 to raise funds for Tommy's.  Their challenge was to walk from London to Brighton...wearing the full firefighters outfit including the breathing apparatus!

The team on the day included Pat Sheridan, Colin Moore, Dan Quin, John O'Brien, and their supporters were Sarah Hayes and Doug Harris. The day was a huge success as they started out at 8am from Purley and arrived at Brighton seafront at 8pm.  They not only completed their challenge but raised £970 for Tommy's. Pat said, "It was tough going in stages but we had a real laugh along with losing a lot of fluid."

Tommy's is truly grateful for your support, thank you!

Home from Home walking challenge

Jenny Phelps Home from Home Walk

Jenny walks 127 miles for Tommy's!

Jenny Phelps of Whitehaven not only completed her Home from Home Walking Challenge but she's raised nearly £3,000 for Tommy's, a charity close to her heart.

Over the course of four weekends, Jenny walked from her home town in the north-east to Whitehaven.  Jenny's close friend and colleague, Karen Bewley, who has suffered several miscarriages herself, supported Jenny in the last leg of the walk crossing the finishing line together.

Jenny said, "The walk was fantastic - very hard work but well worth it ... and there were even a few people who kept me company along the way. The weather held off for most of it and there were only two days where it continuously poured down - but considering it was in England it could have been much worse!

I've seen some amazing sights across the country and some magnificent views which I would never have seen without doing this event - so along with the additional money raised - its been a life changing experience.

A huge thank you goes out to Jenny!

David Jefferies Memorial Awards Dinner

David Jefferies Memorial Fund 2007

Tommy's awarded £10,000!

Motorbike racing stars and celebrities were some of the 410 people who attended the inaugural David Jefferies Memorial Dinner Awards and Fundraising Event on the evening of Friday, October 26 2007 at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

The evening was hosted by TV celebrity Vernon Kay and Tony Jefferies, father of the late road racing legend David Jefferies who died in 2003 aged 30.

World Superbikes star James Toseland, British Superbike racers Cal Crutchlow and Michael Rutter, Virgin Yamaha team boss Rob McElnea and Isle of Man TT star John McGuiness were among the big names supporting the event.

The David Jefferies Memorial Fund is a registered charity, whose aims are to regularly provide income to other charities which were connected to motorcycle sport and to children. Motorcycle sport was his life and his affinity and natural manner with children was a joy to experience.

During the evening a cheque for £10,000 was donated to Tommy's. The cheque was received gratefully by Diane Appleyard, a family friend of the Jefferies family, and also a long standing member of the Yorkshire Branch of Tommy's.

This is a marvellous donation and will help Tommy's to save babies lives.  Thank you.

BT Openreach support Tommy's in Yorkshire

BT Openreach and Tommy's in Yorkshire have raised £550 for our lifesaving work!

BT Openreach, which is part of the telecomms giant BT, raised the money on behalf of Tommy's and presented a cheque to them at their offices.

Elaine (pictured left) and Sharon (pictured holding the cheque) were very pleased to collect the cheque knowing how important the money is to our research into the prevention of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. Picture was provided by John Bates. We are all particularly grateful to Ann Jones from BT Openreach who worked very hard to organise the fundraising at her workplace over Christmas.

Our Yorkshire committed supporters have been raising money for Tommy's for over 10 years now through organising various events, from balls to Bambino Shows! They are currently organising a Summer Party on the 22nd September to raise even more vital funds for Tommy's. Check out their fantastic website for more information at www.tommysinyorkshire.co.uk.

Congratulations to all our NYC Marathon Runners!

The New York Marathon is a source of inspiration, entertainment and celebration for runners and spectators alike. Our very own Tommy's Team of seven runners participated in the famed race last November, joining the other 37,000 amazing people in this once-in-a-lifetime experience!

From South Williamsburg to Willis Avenue Bridge, runners began to swell into a full-on tidal wave of multicolored singlets, sweating and striving in the ING New York City Marathon 2007. All our runners did us and themselves proud, achieving great personal times and lots of hard earned money for Tommy's.
