A study has shown that high stress levels may reduce a woman's chance of getting pregnant.

Increased alpha-amylase, a marker for the stress hormone adrenaline, was associated with a decreased liklihood of conception during the fertile days of the month. This study was the first to find that a biological measure of stress affects a woman's chance of conceiving.

Joanne Taylor, Tommy's midwife said:

"Stress does affect people in different ways, and therefore may affect some women's chances of trying to conceive. There are a number of ways in which women can prepare themselves for a healthy pregnancy - maintaining a healthy diet, taking folic acid supplements and keeping stress levels to a minimum is a good start."

Tommy's, Baby Loves Disco and Practical Parenting launch dance-athon - tickets on sale now!

Between Saturday 30th October and Sunday 14th November, Baby Loves Disco events in Manchester, London, Brighton, Bristol, Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh, will be dedicated to raising funds for Tommy’s.

For more information, visit www.tommys.org/dance-athon

Click here to subscribe to Practical Parenting magazine and recieve 3 issues for £1.

Baby Race 2010: Push for Tommy's and help save tiny lives

Take part in a sponsored 8k run or power-walk for Tommy's with your buggy and baby, held in association with Buggyfit. On Saturday 11th September at 10am, Windsor Great Park will be overrun by parents and prams as they parade around the stunning course.
