All of a sudden, it's not just your health you have to take care of, but your future baby's too. It can be hard to know what to do for the best.
Pregnancy health tips
- Take a daily 400 microgram (mcg) folic acid supplement.
- Aim to have five different colours of fruit and vegetables a day.
- Swap high fat and sugar snacks for healthy snacks.
- Eat carbohydrates, such as bread, rice and pasta at each meal.
- Eat foods rich in protein, such as lean meat and chicken, fish, eggs and pulses.
- Take daily supplements containing 10mcg of vitamin D.
- Avoid alcohol.
- Quit smoking.
- Talk to your midwife, family and friends about any concerns you have.
Even if you already eat healthily and are in good physical shape, you will need to make some changes to deal with the special strains that pregnancy will put upon your body.
