Running the London marathon for Tommy's

In less than one week I will strap on my trainers and join thousands of other runners in the London Marathon. I am so excited I could squeal, so nervous I could vomit, and so proud I could burst.

Rachel and her daughters at a raceIn January 2012 one of my closest friends Caroline told me that after years of trying and IVF, she was pregnant. Her pregnancy would be high risk as Caroline has a rare condition that makes premature birth much more likely, but they were hopeful. I was doubly delighted, as I was about to give birth to my third child. On 29 February 2012 I gave birth to my daughter Emily, Caroline’s pregnancy was progressing well, and she and her lovely husband Nick were expecting a boy.

Katy Hill on hosting the Tommy's Awards

I was honoured to host The Tommy's Awards ceremony at London’s Landmark Hotel. It was an inspirational day and I’m an avid supporter of this amazing charity because of my own experience [Katy suffered a miscarriage in 2005].

Possibly the worst idea I’ve ever had was to share my personal story in my opening to the awards mind you.  Yup. Big mistake. HUGE!  I totally lost it, of course. But it was no bad thing as it served to illustrate the vital nature of the work Tommy’s does. The devastation following the loss of a child never fully leaves you.
